Information about Bed Bugs

Bed Bugs are insects measuring 5 to 7mm long with a float, oval-shaped body.
Over recent years this pest has become widely present in France, notably in country accommodation.
They feed on human blood, mainly at night, and their bites can lead to irritating sore spots.
They take advantage of the movement of walkers to move around with them, hiding in sleeping bags and blankets and taking up residence in guest houses along a trail.
The best friend of the bed bug is silence: not talking about it only helps proliferation.
This is why within our association, we do talk about them. Our members are informed and are invited to carry out preventive treatments regularly. It should be noted that the present of bed bugs in an establishment is in no way the result of doubtful hygiene practices.

Hikers have a role to play in fighting these pests by following a few simple rules:

  • check inside your sleeping bag or sheets daily before putting them away and check your back pack regularly
  • carry out preventive treatment of your sleeping materials, baggage and personal belongings (inside and out
  • if you are bitten or have any doubts, speak to your host
  • follow the recommendations made at each accommodation structure
  • don't hesitate to ask when booking whether the owner carries out preventive treatment and if so, what sort.
