If you choose to set off with a donkey, it will be better trained than Modestine, but it will certainly try to ‘test’ you.
Donkeys know how to obey but they are highly intelligent animals and adapt to the person leading them. This is why children should start out with the help of an adult. Donkeys are also excellent companions, they are gentle and friendly and quickly become the central focus of a group. They are happy to stop for a walker who has fallen behind or to share your picnic.
Enjoy your walk… but be forewarned, setting off with a donkey does involve an element of risk…
That of falling in love with it!
